Congratulations to Becky and Tom Becherer who were the high bidders for "THE ULTIMATE BOURBON TRAIL EXPERIENCE" at this years Bourbon & Bowties Event benefiting Norton Children's Foundation.
Aaron Levitch and I were excited to "chaperone" your special day along with Sean Higgins from Mint Julep Tours. We began the day by boarding your comfortable shuttle provided by Mint Julep Tours. A delicious breakfast was provided by Verbena which provided the "energy" to begin our adventure. Sean provided the on the road entertainment. Before we knew it we were in Bardstown.
Our first stop was The Bourbon Heritage Center at Heaven Hill Distillers where we enjoyed a VIP behind the scenes private tour of the facilities at Heaven Hill, seeing the production of bourbon, from the time it goes into the barrel, the aging in their warehouses, all the way through the labeling and bottling. Of course no Bourbon Tour is complete without a sampling and Heaven Hill served us their finest.
From there, we enjoyed lunch at Circa, an intimate restaurant in the heart of Bardstown with southern influences, prepared by two Culinary Institute of America graduate chefs, using home grown and local products whenever possible.
After lunch, our next stop was Four Roses where we had the unique opportunity to do a barrel sampling of all 10 of their recipes straight from the barrels with Four Roses master distiller Jim Rutledge. After we tasted all 10 barrels, the group assisted our auction winners pick their favorite barrel. In just a few weeks they will receive 60 bottles with their customized private label.
Mint Julep Tours then took us back to Louisville and to Bourbons Bistro, where we enjoyed a delicious 3 course dinner. Bourbons Bistro is where bourbon country comes to eat, and was a fitting end to our full day of The Ultimate Bourbon Trail Experience.
